Engineering the Future of AP Automation
A Conversation with Springtime Technologies CTO, Mogens Pedersen
To drive the vision and delivery of our technology strategy, a core pillar of our growth journey, Springtime Technologies appointed Mogens Pedersen as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in May 2025.
We sat down with Mogens to discuss what excites him about this role, and his vision for our flagship solution, Invoicetrack.
A passion for new technologies
Q: Tell us about your professional journey and what brought you to Springtime Technologies?
A: I have a passion for building applications that significantly unburden companies from the administrative parts of their daily work. That “cocktail” gets even better when large amounts of data, heavy calculations, and a strong need for configuration and customization are involved.
Using technology to solve real-life, complex challenges at speed and at scale for large enterprise customers is what makes me walk the extra mile. This is what I have been doing throughout my career at companies like SimCorp in Denmark and Basware in Finland; and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.
Springtime is at a pivotal moment. The company recently obtained new investment and a new board of directors, who reached out and asked if I was up for a great challenge and yet another exciting growth journey.
My response was, “Absolutely, I am!”
Q: What excites you most about this role at this point in your career?
A: Joining the engineering teams at Springtime was such an exciting opportunity. I love to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone. Spending time understanding the inner workings of Invoicetrack, being impressed by its capabilities, and identifying areas for improvement is a fantastic exercise.
Our teams at Springtime have a deep passion for innovation and customer-centricity. Being allowed to co-create technology and functional roadmaps with them, that we will execute over the coming months and years, is massively exciting and rewarding. By adding large-scale thinking and new technologies like Agentic AI to the equation, our current and future customers can look forward to spectacular new capabilities for AP teams.
Driving Engineering Excellence and Scalable Platforms
Q: How would you describe the role of the CTO and your vision for technology development at Springtime?
A: My vision is: To build a scalable, secure, and customer-centric SaaS platform that continuously delivers business value through innovation, automation, and operational excellence.
We strive to foster a culture where high-performing teams and proud professionals can thrive, new technologies are embraced thoughtfully, and every engineering decision ensures that our customers are served better, faster, and more reliably, and at scale.
The role of the CTO is to orchestrate and oversee this work. To create a roadmap that allows for an even brighter future for Invoicetrack, for our employees, and especially for our customers.
Q: What core principles guide your work?
A: I have quite a few. Maybe simplicity is the one thing that has brought me the most value. Do not overcomplicate things. It costs money upfront and especially down the road.
Q: What’s your long-term vision for Invoicetrack and for Springtime Technologies as a whole?
A: Springtime Technologies today is not the biggest player in the AP automation industry, nor do we have the largest number of customers. So, my ambition is to significantly rock the boat and make Invoicetrack the most widely used AP solution for SAP/ERP customers.
Invoicetrack: The AP Automation Solution for Global Enterprises
Q: Speaking of Invoicetrack, what makes our AP automation solution different from the rest of the market?
A: Firstly, AI-driven AP automation is our sole focus, so product innovation is undiluted. Its capabilities are laser focused on enabling Global Process Owners (GPOs) and AP leaders to accelerate and improve how invoices are processed on a global scale.
Secondly, Invoicetrack has a very tight integration with SAP/ERP, which is incredibly appealing to our core target market, who are global enterprises, many of which have headquarters in Europe and who are looking for AP automation for shared service centers.
The integration works out of the box, so there are no bespoke connectors required which can be both time-consuming and expensive to build and maintain. This tight relationship also allows us to use some of the SAP terminology in our application. SAP customers therefore find that Invoicetrack is much more of a natural extension to their existing landscape than any other solution in the market.
Furthermore, Invoicetrack is built as a single, unified platform. This allows for both a consistent UI and a consistent ‘version of the truth’. Many other solutions in the market have been stitched together over time because of changing strategies or inherited functionality through acquisitions.
Q: In your view, what does it take to become the clear leader in AP automation?
A: Focus, determination and a firm strategy. And, spend 20 years building all the needed logic, automation and functionality into your product. The AP business is highly sophisticated. When you operate worldwide, you will learn that invoices don’t always follow any pattern but rather can be seen as snowflakes. This is the complexity you need to handle – at scale. A leader in this industry understands this challenge and has the mechanism in place to capture and make use of the characteristics of a snowflake.
Looking Ahead: Trends, Tools, and Technology
Q: How do you see our technology strategy evolving to meet customer needs in the next 1–3 years?
A: We will look at everything. But, I think in particular, we will leverage new technologies in the Data Analytics space to allow for better utilization of data. We will be introducing Agentic AI to Invoicetrack, and we are working closely with our customers on relevant use cases. We will continue to evolve and modularize the platform to scale it even further and we will take advantage of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and autoscaling techniques.
We will continue to engage with both existing and new customers to understand requirements and bring functionality tailored to the large enterprises using SAP/ERP and who have picked the best solution in the world for their AP operations.
Q: What technologies or trends do you believe will have the most significant impact for AP teams in the near future?
A: I believe that customers will look for AP solutions that are easy to on-board and especially easy to maintain and adapt to changing business needs, such as expanding the solution into new markets. Having solutions that are largely pre-configured, allowing for configuration in clear text rather than through tons of business rules, and enabling automated generation and maintenance of rules and decision logic will be key.
Q: Are there any emerging technologies you’re particularly excited to explore further within our solution?
A: We are looking to further utilize the Azure Platform, including Microsoft Fabric. And of course there is Agentic AI, but we are taking time to ensure that its introduction is thoughtful and can be a gamechanger for our customers and not just hype. Questions like cost of execution, system performance, and quality assurance are massively on the radar.
Q: Finally, what message would you like to share with our customers, partners, and readers?
A: Consider Invoicetrack. Let us show you what it can do.
We believe we have the best AP solution in the market for SAP/ERP customers, and we are eager to showcase that.
